Bullis House Inn, is a registered Texas State historic landmark
that was built beginning in 1906 and completed in 1909. The three story
white multi-columned mansion was designed by noted architect Harvey Page for
Brigadier General John Lapham Bullis and his family. General Bullis,
military officer and commander of a special troop known as the Black
Seminole Scouts saw service along the Rio Grande, the Panhandle and other
parts of West Texas and parts of Mexico. General Bullis along with the Black
Seminole Scouts were instrumental in the capture of Apache Chief, Geronimo.
Bullis House Inn is located in the Historic Government Hill area directly
across Fort Sam Houston. It is located on a one acre treed lot with abundant
birds, and other wildlife. The inn is convenient to most major area bus
lines.
The Bullis House is a little over a mile from the Alamo, downtown
Riverwalk, shops, restaurants and museums. Just a few blocks away Bullis
House Inn guests can also access the new Museum Reach Riverwalk and ride the
river taxi to downtown , rent bicycles or enjoy more shopping and
restaurants at the Pearl complex.
Once inside the neo-classical designed mansion guests will see all of the
original architectural features including oak stairways and patterned floors
of fine woods. There are large parlors with sliding pocket doors, marble
fireplaces and decorative plaster ceilings with medallions that frame
Bavarian crystal chandeliers.
Guest Rooms are individually decorated in colors of dark blues,
burgundies, yellows , hunter greens and are spacious with 14 Ft ceilings
,decorative chandeliers and either king- or Queen-size beds with thick
comforters or quilts and decorative daybeds. Other amenities will include
flat panel TVs; bath robes; clock radios; coffee makers, drinking wares and
ice buckets. Some guest rooms also have wood burning fireplaces with
mirrored mantles, French doors and closets. Rooms are heated and cooled for
year round comfort. Some rooms have either private or hall baths.
Breakfast is a healthful Continental and will consist of homemade breads
or pastries, hot or cold cereals, granolas, yogurt, fresh fruits, our
signature whipped orange juice, cinnamon or regular coffee, assorted teas
and hot chocolate.
A hall telephone, writing desk, and sitting area with computer having
high-speed Internet service is located for all guests to use. Free Wi-Fi is
available throughout the mansion and on the veranda of Bullis House. Bullis
House guests also have use of our large retro swimming pool, free parking
and a small full-size kitchen, which is located next door.
Families with any age children are always welcomed. Bullis House
Inn is a non-smoking Inn. Smoking is permitted, however on the veranda and
grounds of the inn. We do not accept pets.
Special events such as; weddings, receptions , photo shoots, meetings
etc. are also available within Bullis House Inn. We can accommodate inside
events of up to 125 persons for weddings, meetings and receptions. Larger
events are possible using the exterior garden areas.
